eye levels

The exhibition eye levels is the third collaboration between the four Vienna-based artists. They are bringing three new, jointly created works to Brussels in which they took up ideas from their previous exhibition i look up, i look down from my human height. The construction method of a cupola, as found in church buildings or representative architecture, serves as a model for an expansive sculpture. This is juxtaposed with an analog animation film showing a person‘s attempt to correct their upside-down reflection in a spoon.

"And several years into building the structure, many started asking themselves—‘Is there ever going to come an end to this soaring accumulation of material?’ ‘When is it finally enough,’ they whispered to one another. They whispered not out of fear but of exhaustion. Every few metres wrenched out of heaven and every hundred sticky boulders stamped with ochre fingerprints, they were awashed with another wave of disappointment. Still no sight of heaven. The flaming red eye stared them down, unyielding, their tongues sweating, necks sore, and faces burnt from looking up. Until—at once—trembling, rumbling, the builders clenching onto rubble as it flew in all directions. And wherever a stone fell, a temple was built, and a civilisation was founded with its own language and customs."
